President Abdul Hamid said that the new generation will enrich themselves through Nazrul studies and will make a meaningful contribution to the formation of a nation by reviving the great patriotism of patriotism in the hope of building a non-communal, equitable, non-communal society.
He said this while inaugurating a three-day national program at Trishal in Mymensingh on Friday (May 25th) marking the 119th birth anniversary of national poet Nazrul Islam.
The President said, "Nazrul is not only the national poet of Bengal, he is a poet of awakening, poet of equality."
The President expressed the hope that the new generation will contribute to the change of society and the formation of the golden Bengal by enriching themselves with the ignorance of Nazrul.
Paying rich tributes to the memory of national poet Nazrul Islam, the President said, Nazrul was born in Churulia village of West Bengal but has spent an important chapter in his life since 1914 in Mymensingh's Trishal.
The President said, 'Nazrul has played a unique role in the struggle for freedom of Bengalis, freedom of movement and independence and against the oppression and communalism through its spontaneous talent, rich and valuable literary works, speeches, life stories and sparks of human values, as a poet of equality.'
The President said, Nazrul has been running from different parts of the country including East, North and South many times. The backward villages of undivided Bengal have come to the people. His eloquent personality and speech delivered the message of awakening among the majority of the people of Bengal through singing and recitation, and heard the message of freedom. Freedom fighter Abdul Hamid said that Nazrul's literary work inspired us to protest against exploitation and deprivation of Pakistani rulers. His patriotism and enthusiastic poems and songs have stirred the spirit of our struggle. '
The President said, Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, brought the poet in 1972 to Kolkata from Kolkata to Dhaka to honor this great poet.
Various programs including colorful rally, discussion meeting and cultural programs have been taken for the birth anniversary of the rebel poet Nazrul Islam. The program started on March 25 from Darirampur Nazrul Mancha. The Ministry of Culture and Mymensingh District Administration jointly organized this event. The program will end on 27th May.
