Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said 61 percent of the country's people are latrine, 28 percent of the people have combined latrines and 10 percent of the people use underdeveloped latrines. In addition, 13 million 92 million people of the country enjoy safe drinking water. As such, 87 percent people of the country are covered under the facilities. The remaining 13 percent of people collect water from remote other safe water sources.

Responding to another question of Jatiya Party member Pir Fazlur Rahman, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said that due to the relentless dependence on ground water in safe water and agricultural work, the ground water level has already dropped below 3m to 10m. As a result, there is not enough water available in tube wells in dry season.

He said that the government has taken a project titled 'Pond / Dighi / Water Resource Reclamation / Rehabilitation of the District Council for water saving and supply of safe water at a cost of Tk. Under this project 809 ponds are being re-excavated across the country.
