With the increase in the import duty on rice, 28 percent of the customs duty has been stopped due to import of rice by the mainland port of Benapole. Though some of the old LC rice is imported, traders said that no new LC is open. Earlier, two hundred and three hundred trucks used to be imported by Benapole port, this number has now increased from 20 to 30.

Earlier, the duty on rice was 2 percent, it increased to 28 percent in the current budget. Due to increase in duty on rice, the price of rice has increased at the rate of 4/5 rupees per kg in the market. Earlier, the duty was 70 paisa per kg, it was increased to 9 paisa 35 paisa. In this situation, the import of rice has reduced many times. As the traders suffer such losses, the price of rice in the country has started to increase.

One of the rice is imported from India, which is imported from Benapole, the country's main land port. In the case of import of rice as the main food item, only the name would be tax-duty. For this, the traders used to import the rice as much as possible.

Deputy Commissioner of Bonapole customs house Zakir Hossain said that earlier, 55 55 thousand metric tons of rice was imported through Benapole port. After the increase in tariff, rice imported only in the last 17 days, only 5,500 metric tons. Traders will be forced to refrain from importing rice if the imposed duty continues. At present, the per tonne rice is imported from India for $ 390. Prior to 100 tons of customs duty was 77 thousand taka. Increasingly, it increased to 9 lakh 56 thousand rupees. Due to the decrease of import, the price of rice has decreased in India.

Rice importer Mizanur Rahman told BreakingNews that importers did not open LCs again due to imposing new tax duties. Many people who had opened the LC before the budget, only they were entering the Paltan LC rice ports. Even after paying huge tax deductions, the tax has to be withdrawn from the port. There are thousands of rice warehouses in Bardhaman, India's many importers warehouse. They are planning to sell the rice from the warehouse for open market due to the increase in duty tax.

Benapole Import Exporters Association vice-president Aminul Haque told BreakingNews that many importers have not been able to extricate rice in the hopes of reducing the customs duty on rice. As a result, there are several thousand tonnes of rice at Benapole port since the announcement of the budget.

Benapole port director Aminul Islam said, the import of customs duty on rice has reduced due to the import of rice. The ship's transshipment yard is also empty. Earlier, two / three hundred rice trucks were imported every day, currently importing 20 to 30 trucks. It is expected that the government will withdraw the increased tariff considering rice import and revenue.
